THE BOOK

Biota Maxima is part of a selected group of books that combine science and art: to truly understand nature, we believe that the reader must feel wonder while at the same time the information provided must be scientifically rigorous. Biota Maxima offers both.
  • To our knowledge, there are no equivalent books presenting such a broad view of the natural history and biodiversity of any country in the tropical Andes. The text of Biota Maxima draws from more than 600 peer-reviewed publications covering a broad range of biodiversity issues, in the tropics in general and in Ecuador in particular. It is illustrated with over 200 stunning photographs, all (but one) taken with animals in the wild (no form of captivity) in Ecuador. The book was designed by one of the most recognized designers in South America, Belen Mena, winner of the Gold Award 2008 from the International Forum of Design.
  • Biota Maxima can be read on several levels, which makes it of potential interest to a wide audience from children and parents interested in looking at wildlife images and reading short popularized scientific texts to passionate naturalists, ecology students and scientists who will find detailed technical legends associated with the photographs and a unique source of scientific references on Neotropical biodiversity.
